Waste Food Disposal
As part of an environmentally friendly method of handling commercial kitchen food waste and ensuring it is recycled and used for maximum benefit, Countrystyle, Kent’s leading waste and recycling company, has become the exclusive South East waste management partner for Meiko’s MicroVac - an award-winning, new, high vacuum food waste system.
The MicroVac is designed to efficiently handle, transport and store food waste in a range of locations including:-
- Hotels
- Restaurants
- Hospitals
- Schools
- Contract catering sites
It is already being used at the exclusive Langham Hotel in London and two naval Flagship Training sites.
With the MicroVac offering kitchens the very highest level of hygiene standards, Countrystyle’s involvement completes a comprehensive turnkey package that ensures the waste product does not become a burden to the environment.
The system operates using high vacuum to transport food waste from the point of disposal to the point of storage. It operates by grinding and mixing waste food in the inlet with a set amount of water, which is then converted to a liquid mass that is easily extracted later in the process. The liquid mass is transported by high vacuum through a plastic soil pipe network to a liquid separator within the storage tank.
Once food reaches the storage tank, the majority of the water is extracted via a filtering screen and disposed of into the waste water system. Finally, the food waste in the storage tank is discharged into a sealed tank whereupon; it is collected by Countrystyle and taken to its new state of the art In Vessel Composting (IVC) site at Ridham, Kent – the first of its kind in Kent.
Here, it is processed and used to create:-
- nutrient-rich
- peat free
- sustainable
- high specification compost products
